Opticus is so much more than your typical sunglass company…

In 1978, Opticus Eyewear was founded in Boulder, Colorado. It was Boulder’s first high fashion optical shop, but it was destined to become something very different. It happened one day when a representative of the Bureau of Standards walked in.

"Can you make prescription gold-filled metal frames with leather side shields and sweat bars top and bottom for the Antarctic?”

We said “YES!” Since that fateful day, Opticus evolved from high fashion to high altitude prescription eyewear, from ordinary sunglasses to darkened frames and lenses specifically designed for exposure to the elements. Regular sunglasses can be found anywhere! We created unique products, such as our Altice frames, and our McKinley, Ski-Rockit and Blue Tundra lenses. These high prescription lenses and eyewear frames address a variety of outdoor sport requirements, always with an eye toward those with higher prescriptions, darker eyewear, and other special optical needs.

We will go above and beyond to provide a solution for any optical challenge.

We carry several styles of prescription glacier glasses with unique features including detachable side-shields, adjustable temples and adjustable nose pads.  You can simply choose your frame and lens type, a la carte, and we make a custom pair of glasses that fit your personal need.

We are not afraid of a challenge. We understand that in some cases, specific prescriptions require special techniques for lenses that interfere with side shield installation. In other cases, specific sport frames feature a groove specifically designed for the insertion of wafer thin lenses. Your journey may require eyewear with lenses that are dark enough and protective enough to address the intended use. Such challenges have driven us to invent our own unique processes. Our equipment is specialized to address specific individualized needs. Our knowledgeable and patient staff is eager to help you choose a lens and frame combination that best suits your needs.
