Pro-Performance Lenses: These lenses offer a maximum of 92-93% light reduction; excellent for high-altitude expeditions, rock climbing and ice climbing. Blue Tundra and Silver Frog lenses feature a flash mirror front, pigment base and back anti-reflection coat. McKinley lenses feature a higher contrast amber photochromic base and will transition to a 92% chocolate brown density in cool bright conditions. Variations on the McKinley filter are available by request for other applications such as more rapid downhill skiing that requires a limit to maximum densities and a lighter starting point.
Performance Lenses: Darker than average sunglasses, at 88% visible light reduction, the Sierra #3 or Malachite #3 lenses offer good all around performance for everyday activities. They feature a color pigment base, additional UV filter and scratch resistant coat (not scratch proof). Caution! Though the initial density of these lenses is sufficient for higher altitude activity, materials that are neither mirrored nor photochromic based can be subject to gradual loss of color density and UV filter saturation over time. Serious repeat climbers should consider a filter that offers longer term solutions for protracted repeat use.

Blue Tundra |
92-93% density (7-8% VLT) This filter is truly glacier dedicated. The amber pigment base is dense and comfortable, but still retains enough contrast to enhance visibility in hazier or overcast environments. Available in resin and E-lite (mid index) single vision and multifocal/progressive. PLEASE NOTE: MANUFACTURERS HAVE RECENTLY DISCONTINUED MOST PIGMENTED GLASS MATERIALS. WE REGRET THAT GLASS IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN MOST GLACIER OR MARGINAL GLACIER DENSITY FILTERS. COMING SOON: NXT (poly-resin hybrid) COLOR POURED FILTERS IN SINGLE VISION ONLY. |
McKinley

Reaches 92-93% density (7-8% VLT) This filter is photochromic starting at 80% density in lower light conditions and transitioning to full glacier density in brighter cooler conditions. An excellent extreme exposure lens with some flexibility for other applications such as driving or more pedestrian activities. CAUTION! Extreme cold will also activate darkening even in lower light conditions. Other versions of this lens are available for active sport applications. Available in resin, very limited availability in glass. COMING SOON: NXT (POLY-RESIN HYBRID) FILTERS IN SINGLE VISION ONLY. |

This lens offers 88-89% density (11-12% VLT). Considered marginal glacier
density, this filter is fine for alpine exposure, but marginally protective for extended high altitude
use. Amber base offers good flexibility in varying lighting conditions. Sierra MGD is available in
a polarized and non-polarized version depending on application. The polarized version is not |
Malachite MGD |
This lens is identical to SIERRA MGD in all filtration characteristics other than base color, which is gray-green. The more neutral color offers truer perception, but is less forgiving in hazier or lower light conditions offering less detail than itʼs higher contrast amber counterpart. It is also available in polarized and non-polarized versions and subject to the same use recommendations as the above SIERRA MGD material. |
